Following on from question 1, “Do you make a lot of dentures each year?”, in our series of 9 key questions you should ask the dentist making your dentures, here is question 2:
Will I get to meet with the denture technician direct?
Good answer: No, however, the dentist will have a long discussion with the denture technician about each case and may take photographs of the patient at the bite and try-in stage, so the technician can get the optimum cosmetic result.
TDIC answer: Yes, you will meet the denture technicians direct; in fact they will move the teeth in wax in front of you to ensure you get the best possible result. We will only finish the denture when both you and the technician are happy with the result.
We will publish question 3 soon, but if you want to get a copy of all 9 questions contact us now to order a brochure.
The above questions are really suggestions to stimulate a discussion between the dentist and patient. If the dentist is willing to spend time answering these questions and is knowledgeable about the answers it is more likely he will spend more time with you to ensure the best results. If you are in any doubt we offer a free consultation with no obligation, you are more than welcome to come along and get another opinion.
I have talked to many, many patients who have had denture problems that have not been solved with a new set of dentures (sometimes multiple sets).
Some patients who contact me ask me what questions they should be asking a dentist before having dentures made.
In response to this I have suggested that patients would ask a dentist proposing to make dentures for them the following questions. They are a good way to gauge if the dentist takes a particular interest in this area of dentistry. The vast majority of dentists do their absolute best to provide a high level of treatment to all their patients however, being a general dentist their expertise may not lie in the area of denture construction.
Over the next few weeks we will reveal the 9 questions you should be asking one by one so be sure to come back and visit our blog.
We will initially reveal the question, a good answer (the answer you should expect from a good dentist) and the TDIC answer (this answer is what you can expect if you come to The Denture and Implant Clinic.
Q1: Do you make a lot of dentures each year?
Good answer: In fact, some dentists avoid taking on many denture cases. Very few dentists have specialised in making dentures but there are still some dentists who make a large number of dentures each year, i.e. 50 plus. Naturally the more dentures a dentist makes the better the dentist is likely to be at that treatment.
TDIC answer: We exclusively treat denture and implant patient, i.e. all our patients require denture or implant treatment; this is very unusual for dentists.
