Financial institutions are some of the most recent companies to announce major employment cut backs in the following months.

“We understand that these are tough times, and we are committed to making sure our patients are still receiving the excellent care they deserve without breaking the bank,” says Dr. Rebecca Cipriano, Vice President of Healthy Woman OB/GYN.

Healthy Woman announced this week that they would be implementing a new affordable payment schedule for patients without insurance coverage, giving patients the ability to afford routine visits without worrying about insurance reimbursement and affordability.

“We are giving patients options. Many lose their insurance and don’t go to their physician because of cost fears. We want our patients to know that even without insurance, they can afford to come to us and make sure that they are healthy,” says Dr. Rebecca Cipriano.

For some, insurance premiums have increased by almost fifty percent, a reality that insurance companies will no longer be able to turn away or charge people more with pre-existing conditions, thus raising the rates for everyone.

“It’s important for our patients to know that we understand how financially they might be affected, and want to make sure that they are getting the care they need at a rate that works for them.”

Drs. Joseph and Rebecca Cipriano started the practice eleven years ago, servicing women in the Central New Jersey area. With two locations, in Freehold and Colts Neck, the all board-certified practice takes pride in offering superior service to women in the area.

“Our patients mean the world to us, and anything we can do to help make health a top priority in these tough times, we are going to do it.”

Ob Gyn NJ | Healthy Woman Ob Gyn | New Jersey Ob Gyn http://healthywomanusa.com/blog/holiday-foods-to-avoid-during-pregnancy http://healthywomanusa.com/blog/holiday-foods-to-avoid-during-pregnancy#comments Mon, 26 Nov 2012 13:19:16 +0000 admin http://healthywomanusa.com/?p=2396 Its that time of year again! The holidays are here in full swing, which means lots of time with loved ones, good food, and all sorts of holiday parties.

Pregnant women have to change their daily diets when they become pregnant, but what about during the holidays? Are the traditional foods of the holidays safe for women who are expecting?

Pregnancy weakens your immune system and makes you more vulnerable to food-borne illnesses that could make you sick and harm your baby. So it’s important to avoid certain foods during pregnancy — even on special occasions. Here are some foods to avoid this holiday season, for you and your unborn baby.

Fruit and cheese platters are a party staple, and a relatively healthy way to fill up, but stay away from soft cheeses made with unpasteurized milk. Unpasteurized or “raw milk” cheeses may contain listeria, which is killed during the pasteurization process. If you’re not sure which cheeses are safe, stick with hard cheeses like cheddar and Swiss, and semi-soft cheeses like Monterey jack and mozzarella. Cream cheese and pasteurized processed cheeses like American are also safe.

If your party features a carving station with roast beef or turkey, make sure the meat is cooked well-done and is still steaming hot. Unless you’re sure they’re well cooked, avoid sauces like bearnaise, hollandaise, and aioli, which can contain uncooked eggs.

Homemade eggnog is generally off-limits, because it’s usually made with raw, unpasteurized eggs — and alcohol. But you can make a virgin, pregnancy-safe version at home with a pasteurized egg product or an egg alternative like Egg Beaters. Or try store-bought eggnog — just check the label to make sure the eggs are pasteurized. You might also consider “soy nog,” which doesn’t contain eggs or any other dairy products. You can find it during the winter holidays in most large grocery stores and in natural food stores.

You’ll also want to avoid desserts that may contain raw or undercooked eggs, like some custards and mousse, and homemade ice cream.

Fruitcake and other desserts that use alcohol as an ingredient are generally okay, because most of the alcohol burns off during cooking. If the fruitcake has been soaked in rum or other liquor after being baked, however, little of the alcohol will have evaporated, and you should probably steer clear.

Ob Gyn NJ | Healthy Woman Ob Gyn | New Jersey Ob Gyn http://healthywomanusa.com/blog/could-you-be-shiras-hero http://healthywomanusa.com/blog/could-you-be-shiras-hero#comments Fri, 12 Oct 2012 16:33:43 +0000 admin http://healthywomanusa.com/?p=2265 Shira Klein, a wife and loving mother of three beautiful children, is fighting once again for her life. Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on New Year’s Eve of 2010, Shira has been battling this disease for the past two years. After months of intense chemotherapy, Shira experienced a short period of remission, followed by a relapse. Again, the disease took control and Shira underwent another round of intense chemotherapy, which included several hospital stays. Shira was able to undergo a stem cell transplant using her own cells, which put her in remission for a short time.

Shira has since relapsed and is undergoing a new chemotherapy treatment in hopes of entering into remission. This time, she will need a stem cell donor, and is desperately seeking a match within the community.

In hopes of helping Shira find a donor, Healthy Woman OB/GYN is now an official continuous donation site, starting Tuesday, for bone marrow donors in hopes that one of the 40,000+ patients might be a match for Shira Klein.

“We are very excited that we are able to offer on-site donations to our patients,” says Dr. Rebecca Cipriano. The Ciprianos work very closely with Mr. Klein, Shira’s husband. “We are dedicated to helping Shira find a match, and are excited to invite our patients to help.”

Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, formerly known as Hodgkin’s disease, is a cancer of the lymphatic system. This affects the immune system, and causes the cells in the lymphatic system to grow abnormally.

In Shira’s case, a stem cell transplant is needed to replace the diseased bone marrow with healthy stem cells that help grow new bone marrow. A stem cell transplant is usually an option if Hodgkin’s lymphoma returns despite treatment.

As a continuous donation site, Healthy Woman OB/GYN patient’s will be given the opportunity to be a stem cell donor. By meeting the requirements and agreeing to be a stem cell donor, each patient has the potential to provide Shira with the life-saving stem cells she desperately needs.

Through DKMS, the largest bone marrow registry in the world and an organization dedicated to swabbing potential donors, Healthy Woman OB/GYN is able to have kits available on site to swab anyone interested in helping Shira find her donor.

“We hope through these efforts Shira is able to find a match and continue to inspire her community with her remarkable story.”

Schedule a time at Healthy Woman OB/GYN to get swabbed today!

Dr. Neeti Misra attended medical school and did her first residency in obstetrics and gynecology in her native India, after which she completed an internship and residency at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center, the Long Island campus for the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. A board-certified diplomate in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Misra is also a member of the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Says Dr. Misra, “My goal is is to promote health awareness amongst women, especially minority women. During my five years in practice, I have noticed that most women do not consider themselves a priority when it comes to health care and I would like to change that by showing them simple preventitive healthcare measures that would solve any problems before they got out of hand. I like to counsel women in all age groups, from adolesence to menopause, and I customize the care that I administer to meet the needs of each and every woman I treat.”
