Restoring teeth with dental crowns is fast and easy for San Juan Capistrano residents
Dental crowns are common restorations that have been used for many years with great success. However, that does not mean that they haven't changed with the times. Crowns are no longer made of unsightly metal, and they are designed with precision for a great fit and durability. In modern dental offices, even the way that crowns are made has changed, expediting the process to be completed in a day, rather than several weeks.
If you aren't familiar with CEREC, then forget everything you thought you knew about dental crowns. How is CEREC different?
- Impressions - The old way involved goopy trays, discomfort, and gagging. The CEREC way is more like having a picture taken. A light dusting of optical impression powder is applied to your teeth, and the impression is taken digitally, with a scanning device. It is quick, comfortable, and accurate.
- Design - A dental crown's design is based on the impressions, to ensure a good fit and no disruption to your bite. Since optical impressions deliver digital data, the crown is designed with precision using specialized software. The design can be adjusted and refined on-screen, for optimal comfort.
- Wait time - A dental laboratory takes a couple of weeks to turn impressions and a design into a functional crown. Our CEREC machine accomplished this in a matter of minutes, right here in our office. That means no temporary crown, and no extra appointment.
- Final placement - Before permanently bonding the crown to the tooth, your dentist will check its fit, shape, and appearance. Due to the precision nature of CEREC crowns, the chances of problems are minimized, making this step simple. In the rare case that the crown may be less than perfect, we can make a new one on the spot. There is no lab, so there is no waiting for a replacement to come in. You will leave the office with a beautiful smile, a healthy tooth, and a crown that should serve you well for many years to come.
