Laguna Niguel residents ask, what is the fastest way of fixing tooth decay?
Tooth decay, more commonly referred to as cavities, is one of the most common dental concerns. Naturally, the best solution is prevention with good hygiene and dental care. However, once a cavity begins, it's too late for that – the problem will continue to grow until it is treated.
Unfortunately, many people postpone seeing a dentist for tooth decay, expecting a lengthy, uncomfortable, and inconvenient process. With today's standard of care, those concerns are entirely unnecessary. In most cases, the affected tooth can be restored with strong and beautiful cosmetic materials, in just one visit – and the sooner you seek treatment, the simpler it will be.
Cosmetic fillings
Small cavities, which have not seriously compromised the tooth structure, can be repaired with fillings. There is no need to worry about a bright silver, or tarnished black, spot on your tooth. We use specially formulated dental resin, which can be color-matched with precision, and sculpted by your dentist. The filling material is applied, shaped, hardened, and refined – in one convenient appointment.
Cosmetic crowns
Like fillings, crown materials and techniques have evolved dramatically. We no longer need a metal crown, or even a crown with a metal sub-structure, for high-stress areas, such as back teeth. Today, dental porcelain is just as strong as it is beautiful. In state-of-the-art offices, such as this one, the process is also fast and convenient. We design and create the crown right here in our office, using CEREC CAD/CAM technology. This eliminates the need for wearing a temporary, and it eliminates the hassle of waiting for a laboratory.
Choosing the best option
When possible, fillings are considered the preferable option, because they require little if any tooth preparation beyond removing the diseased portion. This is one of several reasons for seeking treatment early. If the decay has progressed to the point that the tooth is weak, susceptible to breakage, or unable to support a filling, then a crown is needed. If treatment is postponed further, allowing decay to spread until the soft inner core of the tooth has been damaged, a root canal treatment is needed. Although we always opt for the most conservative technique that will provide desired results, all of these procedures are comfortable and convenient.
