Dental Crowns
Dental crowns are used in restorative procedures in instances when the tooth is broken down, or when there is not enough tooth structure to restore the tooth with a filling. A dental crown is a cap made of gold, porcelain, or a combination of both, that is placed over the top of the broken down tooth. The crown restores tooth function and prevents it from breaking down further.
After having a crown placed, you will be able to chew normally and not feel any more pain. A crown will also make the teeth look more aesthetically pleasing, giving you the confidence to smile again.
Using CEREC Technology
When it comes to traditional crowns, usually the patients will have two appointments. In the first appointment; the images, impressions and the information obtained are sent to a laboratory to create the crown. While the crown is being created, the patient will be given a temporary crown. Once the permanent crown is received from the lab, the patient will need to visit the dental office to have the temporary crown removed and replace it with the permanent one.
With CEREC however, the patient only has to go in for one visit. In that one appointment, Dr. Alex Basti and Dr. Nina Basti will prepare the tooth and take pictures. The crown is then milled out of the porcelain right in front of you. In the span of an hour, the patient will have their permanent crown.
The material used for the crowns is cosmetic and matches the natural tooth. No metal is used so you don't have to worry about dark lines appearing around the crown. The materials used in CEREC crowns are also stronger than those used in traditional crowns.
CEREC is new technology and the offices of Dr. Alex Basti and Dr. Nina Basti are one of the offices that have invested in the technology. They have been using it for the past two and a half years and all their patients have been very happy. In order to stay up to date, Dr. Alex Basti and Dr. Nina Basti continue to go through training to ensure they are up to date on the latest technology and materials used.
