When you first come in for dental implants, Dr. Basti assesses your health and checks to see if you are a smoker or have complications such as diabetes. Dr. Basti will then make sure that you are a good candidate before recommending dental implants.

The procedure of placing dental implants takes a period of about three to six months depending on any complications or if the bone structure needs attention. Once the implant has been placed, and the bone has grown around it, Dr. Basti will have you come back in to check on the progress, take x-rays, and make sure that everything is healing properly. Implants are about 95% successful. If a dental implant does fail, it would fail in the first month. In that case, Dr. Basti will remove the old implant and replace it with a new one, which is usually successful.

There is no age limit to be a good candidate for dental implants. They can be done on patients who are 20 years or younger, as well as those who are all the way into their 70s, 80s, and 90s. Implants can benefit anyone who wants the best restoration for their missing teeth. The criteria that Dr. Basti will need to look at includes, bone quality and the amount of bone you have left.
