Why choose a San Juan Capistrano dentist who uses CEREC
When choosing a dental care provider, there are many things to consider. You want to find someone with plenty of experience, and good recommendations from existing patients. Depending on your needs, your dentist may need special areas of expertise such as cosmetic or family dentistry.
Drs. Alex and Nina Basti meet the above criteria, and more. They are dedicated to creating healthy, dazzling smiles for residents of Mission Viejo, San Juan Capistrano, Laguna Niguel, and other nearby communities. One of the unique benefits their practice offers is something that you may not have thought of – CEREC. Unless you have visited a dentist who uses this technology, you may not even be familiar with the term. What is it, and why is it important to you?
CEREC stands for CEramic REConstruction. It is a revolutionary system, from Sirona, which allows your dentist to fabricate dental restorations, such as crowns, in-office. This enables Drs. Basti to provide most common restorations in just one office visit.
The procedure for a CEREC crown begins in the same way as the traditional process. Your doctor prepares your tooth by removing the decayed portion, and shaping the healthy portion. Next, the tooth is shaped to accommodate a crown, which may involve building it up, or reducing it, depending on the structure. This is where the similarities between CEREC and traditional dental crowns stop.
Whereas the old-fashioned method required several weeks of waiting while a laboratory created crowns, the CEREC method is completed in a single day. There are no messy impressions needed, only a quick and comfortable digital scan. The image is transferred to our computer, where the doctor will design your restoration using cutting-edge CAD (computer-aided design) software.
The data is transferred to our CEREC machine, which sculpts the restoration from a block of high-quality ceramic. There are several types of ceramic materials available for use with CEREC, including the latest high-strength porcelain. The doctors will choose the best material and color, for optimal function and stunning beauty. Fabricating the restoration only takes minutes, and you can relax in our comfortable office while you wait. When it is ready, your doctor will check the look and fit before bonding it in place.
With CEREC technology, you can walk in our office with a damaged tooth, and walk out with a beautiful, healthy smile! If you would like more information, or you are ready to schedule an appointment, call us at
