Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening is one of the many ways to improve your smile and eliminate stained or discolored teeth. Whitening can give you the aesthetic benefits and increase your self-esteem. We offer two teeth whitening techniques, traditional take home trays and in office whitening.
Traditional Take Home Trays
With this method, the process starts by having a mold taken of your teeth. From this mold, plastic custom trays are created for you to take home and use with a teeth whitening gel that is placed into the trays at each use. Your dentist, Dr. Alex Basti and Dr. Nina Basti will help you determine the amount of time you should wear the trays at home, but in most cases, you will be wearing your whitening trays for at least an hour each day for one to two weeks. This teeth whitening system has been around for 30 to 40 years. It is predictable and gentle on the teeth and gums. In order for this treatment to be effective, the patient has to be aware of their schedule and remember to wear the trays for the appropriate time.
In Office Teeth Whitening
The in office teeth whitening system is called Zoom! Teeth Whitening. This involves a whitening gel being applied to the patient's teeth and a light being applied which creates a reaction to whiten the teeth. To begin the process, your gums and other areas of your mouth will be covered to ensure their protection from the gel. After that, the gel, which is stronger and faster acting than that is used in the take home system, is applied onto the teeth and the Zoom light is administered.
The entire treatment takes about one hour and 15 minutes. The benefit of the in office teeth whitening is that it is a one-time treatment and there is no need to remember to wear your trays. However, when you chose Zoom! Teeth Whitening, we will provide you with the trays to take home and use when the teeth begin to discolor again, which is usually three to six months after the treatment. This gives you the option of touching them up when necessary.
To determine which system is best for you, schedule an appointment with Dr. Alex Basti and Dr. Nina Basti. They will review your case, and sensitivity. If you are a patient who is extra sensitive to the gel and the light, then the take home trays may be the recommend treatment. If not, then Zoom is an excellent option.
