1064 NdYag/Leg Vein Treatment

Spider veins are characterized by streaks or clusters, usually red, blue, or purple in color. They are caused by very fine veins near the surface of the skin. Although such vessels exist throughout our bodies, we do not normally see them. However, they can become highly visible when damaged or enlarged. Spider veins occur most commonly on the legs or face, and they respond very well to laser treatment.

How 1064 Nd:YAG laser therapy works

Lasers have transformed aesthetic and curative medicine in many ways, seemingly zapping away an endless variety of problems. These advanced devices work by directing a single wavelength of light at specific tissue to achieve the desired result. Like most medical lasers, the 1064 Nd:YAG works on the principle of causing a thermal reaction in the targeted tissue, which, in this case, is the unsightly vein.

What it treats

The 1064 Nd:YAG is an excellent solution for vascular lesions, cherry angiomas, broken capillaries, and enlarged veins. The procedure is safe and precise, making it appropriate for most patients. After an evaluation, Dr. Z will explain whether you are a good candidate, and discuss possible alternatives if you are not. Due to the long-pulse technology, it can effectively treat larger and deeper veins than many light therapies, including reticular veins as large as 4mm. Some larger leg veins (varicose veins), especially those that are bulging and twisted, may not respond well to laser treatment. However, most people with spider veins are ideal candidates for 1064 Nd:YAG treatment.

Recovery and results

Typically, cherry angiomas and very fine vessels can be eliminated with a single session. Depending on the size and depth of the problematic vessels, a series of treatments may be recommended. The procedure is well tolerated and we use a cooling device to ensure your comfort. You may notice mild bruising or discoloration following treatment, but this will fade rapidly. Over the next few weeks or months (depending on the size of the vessel) the vein will close off and fade away.
