Michigan patients smile with confidence with tooth colored fillings

At Richard S. Bernstein, DDS, serving Michigan neighborhoods of Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield, Southfield, Walled Lake, and surrounding communities, our dental team is dedicated to helping patients achieve optimal oral health, including the prevention of cavities. The best steps to prevent cavities are:
- Visit the dentist once or twice per year for early detection or prevention of future issues
- Brush at least twice per day, particularly at bedtime. Use a toothbrush that is recommended for your teeth and use a gentle, circular motion, addressing each tooth
- Floss in an up-and-down pattern between teeth once a day
- Eat a healthy and balanced diet and avoid sticky and sugary snacks or foods that can get between teeth, such as chips and pretzels
- Talk to your dentist about fluorides or sealants
With extensive experience in cosmetic and restorative dentistry, Dr. Bernstein chooses to offer patients natural-looking, metal-free, tooth-colored fillings for the most pleasing appearance. Fillings may also be used to restore damaged, cracked, or broken teeth.
The process for "filling" a cavity may include:
- Local anesthetic may be administered to numb the area surrounding the affected tooth
- The decaying area will be removed
- The tooth will be cleaned and prepped to eliminate any debris or bacteria
- If the cavity is near a nerve, a protective material will be placed
- The area is filled, in layers, with tooth-colored resin
- The filling is shaped and polished
