The American Academy of Dermatology’s SPOTme® free Skin Cancer Screening programme involves the voluntary participation of doctors. As a result of Dr. Dhawan’s considerable contribution throughout the programme, he has been presented a Certificate of Appreciation for his efforts.
Dr. Dhawan gave series of lectures to physicians, trainees, and the public on dermatology subjects such as acne, and skin cancer in the months of July and August. They were given to the physicians at the One Medical Clinic, the family practice residents/trainees at O”connor Hospital in San Jose, and the public at Washington Hospital, Fremont. The talks were well recieved, and Dr. Dhawan will be doing more in the coming months.
Dr. Dhawan received an average of 4.5 stars on Yelp, reflecting the care that the center gives its patients. The Center is grateful and proud of these high ratings that Dr. Dhawan, Roth, Chang, and Ms. Lapointe have received, and will strive to do better! Please see the attached award.
Dr. Dhawan received the attached award from Cigna, and large insurer in the US for his quality and efficient care. In 2017 patients who see Dr. Dhawan will get excellent care at the lowest copay or co-insurance, when compared to other non Cigna Care physicians. This is also true of all the other providers at the Center for Dermatology- we have long provided this type of care to all our patients, regardless of insurance status. This talk was well attended and received, and the physicians and medical personnel gained new knowledge on treatment of acne and rosacea. Dr. Chang was asked to return to given future talks and increase the knowledge of other providers.
These lectures were well attended and received, and the residents gained new knowledge on cutaneous infections. They showed great interests in the topics. Dr. Chang was invited to come back to give more lectures to the resident physicians.
To support the Centers’ commitment to community service and education, Dr. Dhawan will be giving an informative talk on the Sun and skin cancer, on July 22. please see the attached flier for details. These talks have been well attended in the past.

“Dermatologic Unknowns” He will present unusual cases, in a question and answer format, to increase the skills of these trainees.
The lecture was in a quiz format, and was well attended and received. The physicians commented that they learned useful information that will be applied to their practices for the benefit of patients. Both Dr. Dhawan and Dr. Cabral will be doing several more lectures over the next 6 months.
These lectures underscore the commitment of the physicians and staff of the Center to both physician and patient education.
Dr. Sunil Dhawan conducted a free skin cancer screening at the College Preparatory School on 4/28/15. The event was for the teachers, staff, and parents at the school, and was well attended. The attendees expressed their appreciation on the valuable service and education being offered.
The event underscored the Center for Dermatology’s commitment to community service, and will be repeated yearly.
Dr. Dhawan was invited to return to give another talk after his successful talk to the same audience in 2014. He is committed to teaching future dermatologists, and teaches monthly at the dermatology clinic at the VA hospital in Palo Alto, and is also an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor of dermatology at the Stanford University School of Medicine.
He talked on “Integrating Clinical Trials into a Medical Practice.” Dr. Dhawan was invited to give this talk because he is a known authority in the field of dermatology clinical trials and new product development. The talk was well attended and received, and Dr. Dhawan was asked to give this talk again at the next meeting in 2016 in Washington, DC.

Dr. Sunil Dhawan was a guest on the health call in show on Radio Zindagi 1560 am, on December 8th from 7-8 pm.
He discussed acne and eczema, and fielded calls from multiple listeners, many of whom thanked him and the station for the valuable information. Dr. Dhawan has been asked to come back in the near future. Please stay tuned for details! An MP3 of the show is attached.

Dr. Sunil Dhawan , gave a lecture on September 2nd, 2014 to the dermatology residents/ trainees at the Stanford University Department of Dermatology. The lecture was on “Dermatologic Unknowns” and was designed to improve the diagnosis skills in these future dermatologists. Dr Dhawan is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Dermatology, where he has been teaching for over 20 years, with monthly teaching sessions. The lecture was well received, and Dr. Dhawan will be doing others over the next year.
He has been asked by Felicia Smith, MLIS Head of the Stanford University Library Department of Outreach and Learning to give a talk to students at Green Library on the Stanford campus on Wednesday July 16, 2014. Dr. Cabral holds a B.A. in Human Biology with Honors Thesis, M.D. and completed his dermatology residency all from Stanford. He is proud to be the first person in his family to graduate from college and enjoys giving back to the community in the form of mentorship and teaching the next generation of student leaders. Dr. Cabral is also very proud to continue the tradition of service the Center for Dermatology has established in the past 50 years throughout the Bay Area.
He published an important article about a type of skin lesion called a blue nevus recently. This was published in JAMA Dermatology, a major journal in dermatology. This article was quoted in Reuters Health and Medscape Dermatology- both major health related sites.
Dr. Sunil Dhawan will be giving a talk to other dermatologists, physicians, and physicians assistants on the subject of “Luluconazole 1% cream for fungus infections” on 5/22/14 in San Jose , Ca. This one of a number of talks that Dr. Dhawan has given on new and innovative skin treatments. He was also involved in the original studies for this product to get it approved in the United States, and reinforces his commitment to education of other dermatologists, physicians, and the public.
Dr. Sunil Dhawan from the Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic and Laser Surgery, Inc,, is giving back to the community by screening teachers, staff, and parents at the College Preparatory School In Oakland, Ca., on May 28th. 2014, from 7:30-9:30 am. Ms. Amanda Luckey, the Director of Community Services at the school stated “we are screening 25-30 people, and are glad to see that physicians like Dr. Dhawan are contributing back to the community- we appreciate his efforts.”
Dr. Dhawan, from the Center for Dermatology, Cosmetic, and Laser Surgery, Inc. is giving a talk on skin cancer and prevention on May 28th, 2014, from 11-12. This is being done at the Caremore Senior HMO center in San Jose, Ca.
Ms. Radhika Hathi, Director of Community Outreach stated ” this is a valuable service for our seniors, especially during skin cancer awareness month”
Center for Dermatology has a reputation for community service. Dr. Dhawan performed free skin cancer examinations for the USMS Spring National Championship at the George Haines International Swim Center in Santa Clara on May 4, 2014. Dr. Dhawan emphasized the benefit to about 1,500 swimmers, aged 18 to 99. “Early detection and prevention strategies for skin cancer are vital. We are proud to make a difference.” He screened over 40 swimmers, and discovered many with significant damage from the sun, precancers and one with skin cancer. The person with skin cancer stated “I’m grateful for this service and to Dr. Dhawan diagnosing this skin cancer at an early stage”.
