Dental Bridges Procedure
Patients who are interested in dental bridges often ask the team at Laser Dental Associates what they can expect from start to finish in regards to the procedure.
Patients first consult with their dentist to find out if they are a proper candidate for bridges and discuss the advantages they have. They may also consider alternative solutions; such as dental implants and dentures, before deciding on the dental bridge.
Next, the teeth on each side of the space left behind is prepared with the removal of a portion of the enamel. This is done before impressions, used to fabricate the final bridge, are made. The dentist will take the impression, convert them using CAD/CAM technology, and will mill the new bridge out of a block of porcelain right in the dental office with the CEREC system. The fabrication of the new bridge takes approximately 15 minutes. Using high quality dental cement, the bridge is bonded using the surrounding teeth for support. At other dental practices, patients often have to wait weeks and have a provisional crown bonded in place until their final restoration returns from a lab. This takes time, money, and energy from both our dental practice and our patients. This is why we have invested in CEREC technology; to provide same-day restorations.
Once patients have their dental bridge placed, the dentist will discuss with them ways to maintain their new restoration. Is it important for patients to take good care of their dental bridges to extend the longevity. The longer their restorations last, the more value patients receive.
