- Prepares the tooth – After the dentist examines teeth, he or she preps the one to be treated and removes areas of tooth decay or damage.
- Takes impressions – The dentist takes a digital picture of the prepared tooth. The CAD software displays a 3-D image of that tooth. This takes about two minutes.
- Creates the restoration – The dentist uses that image to create a computer design for the restoration. A block of porcelain is then placed in a milling chamber for approximately 11 minutes. Compare this with the traditional method of creating a dental restoration with fabrication at an off site laboratory. That process could take up to a few weeks.
- Fits the restoration – Your crown is complete. The dentist places it atop the damaged tooth. You now have a restored tooth that blends naturally with your smile.
