Laser technologies have significantly improved the way that dental treatments are performed. Dr. Xhoana Gjelaj is proud to offer her Tarpon Springs patients the many benefits that come from laser dentistry. These include:
  • Faster treatments
  • Greater efficiency
  • Improved comfort (some patients don't need anesthetic)
  • Minimal swelling
  • Minimal bleeding
  • No post-treatment discomfort

Conservative dental care

The standard treatment for tooth damage is to drill away decayed tooth structure. This method of treatment heats surrounding material as well. Our office is equipped with patented VSP, or Variable Square Pulse laser technology from Fotona. This dental laser ablates enamel, one of the hardest substances in the body, without heating surrounding tissue or dentin. The use of laser technology leads to improved comfort and a reduced need for local anesthetic in many cases. Laser treatment with the LightWalker® is also completed more quickly and with great accuracy due to the efficiency of light. Without the noise and vibration of the dental drill, tooth repair becomes much more pleasant, making laser dentistry great for children.

Superior clinical results

The range of the LightWalker® system allows Dr. Gjelaj to set ablation parameters according to the condition and type of tissue being treated. This allows for the most accurate, most conservative treatment of even difficult areas such as sub-gingival cavities. Using this laser technology, caries beneath the gums can be treated without gingival bleeding. Moreover, since the speed of ablation changes in diseased tissue, it is possible to preserve a greater amount of healthy tooth structure. The LightWalker® facilitates a strong bond between tooth and restoration without preparation with acid etching due to its ability to achieve a smooth surface and open dentinal tubules.

Root canals benefit from laser technology

Historically, the root canal procedure has been misunderstood as painful and lengthy. Incorporating the LightWalker® laser into endodontic therapy, Dr. Gjelaj provides a much more comfortable and highly effective treatment for her patients. Root canals are performed with local anesthetic and with a laser that is uniquely suited for the internal areas of the tooth. Laser root canal therapy is excellent for the destruction of bacteria in the root canal prior to sealing as well as for the preservation of healthy tissue.

Laser treatment for gum disease

Gum disease is a persistent infection that can be difficult to manage. Using the LightWalker® laser, Dr. Gjelaj has achieved excellent results and precision in targeting the bacteria that cause gum disease. This technology involves Wavelength Periodontal Therapy to remove unhealthy bacteria from periodontal pockets and treat inflamed gum tissue. Laser gum disease treatment causes minimal bleeding and requires no sutures. Compared to conventional gum surgery, laser periodontal therapy is very conservative, very effective, and facilitates quick healing.
