Liquid facelifts that use fillers like Sculptra, Radiesse, and Juvederm Voluma are becoming more popular. Over the past 5 years there has been an exponential increase in the number of non surgical aesthetic procedures performed in the United States. According to the Liquid Facelift Association, “Aesthetic cosmetic medical procedures have become increasingly mainstream, resulting in the development and FDA approval of more advanced products to change the aging face into a healthier, more vibrant youthful face.”
Cosmetic procedures are becoming more popular partially because it’s attractive to maintain a vibrant appearance, a look that resembles or aligns with the youthful way you feel. But, looking young isn’t always easy, especially after you hit your 40s and 50s.
First you look in the mirror and notice that the skin just below your eyes is sagging, perhaps even darkening. A few years later, you spot lines forming at the edges of your eyes. Some people call these lines “crow marks”. You may get frustrated or wonder if your skin has betrayed you.
There’s no need to worry. Over many years, your skin has not only maintained its youthful appearance, it has also protected your organs from the sun’s sharp rays, defended you against bacteria and healed itself after you got scratched, burned or cut.
These harmful effects take their toll on skin. Depending on your genetic makeup, your skin might start aging prematurely or sooner than most other people. If this happens, you might also experience early hair graying and/or thinning, sagging skin in your neck area, brown spots on your hands and wrinkles on your knees and elbows as early as your 20s or 30s.
To reduce or eliminate brown spots, you can apply sunscreen to your hands. You can treat your neck with a moisturizer that has plenty of collagen in it. Wrinkles on knees and elbows can be treated with a moisturizer that has ammonium lactate as a main ingredient. Simply rub the moisturizer on the affected area. You may also find that stretching exercises and pumping iron helps tone your skin.
Of course, you could also cover these areas by wearing turtle neck shirts, pants and long dresses and skirts. But, that won’t reduce or conceal the signs of facial aging. It won’t keep collagen and elasticity from decreasing in your facial skin.
To slow down the pace at which your facial skin ages, you could contact a plastic surgeon and go under the knife. In this case, board certified plastic surgeons might reconstruct your nose and lift the skin beneath your eyes and around your cheek bones, all while using local anesthesia. You may need to follow your surgeon’s instructions for several weeks to recover fully from this type of invasive surgery.
I recommend the non-invasive anti-aging option rather than the surgical facelift procedure. It’s referred to as a liquid facelift, a treatment that uses gel fillers and takes between 20 to 30 minutes.
The numbers of people receiving a liquid facelift is growing. Rather than reconstructing a portion of your face (i.e. eyes, nose, mouth), the non-invasive procedure restores your natural youthful appearance.
Liquid facelifts that are performed using gel fillers like Botox may have to be replenished every six months to keep the tissue volume in your skin at high levels. It’s these elevated tissue volumes that can remove wrinkles, hollowness and crow’s feet from your face.
