How Radiesse Fillers Work

Radiesse Fillers

It’s natural for the human face and body to age over time, developing wrinkles and folds in the skin. During the aging process, the body produces less collagen and elastin. Each of these natural chemicals plays a vital role, tightening the skin, and helping it appear well moisturized and young. That shared, a body with healthy collagen levels generally won’t develop many, if any, wrinkles.

More specifically, collagen is a fibrous protein that connects and strengthens tissues, bones, organs and muscles. Believe it or not, certain foods like eggs and beans can help keep collagen levels up. However, at some point even a healthy diet won’t be enough to keep skin looking as youthful and vibrant as it did several years ago. It’s at this point that many women and men start thinking about getting an invasive facelift or using tested non-invasive products like Radiesse.

But, not so fast. First, let’s take a look at elastin, another natural chemical the body produces. Elastin is a protein found in connective tissue. Instead of primarily working to keep the skin from developing wrinkles, elastin helps the skin to return to its natural state after it has been poked or pinched.

Made of water based calcium hydroxylapitite (CaHA) microspheres, Radiesse is a filler that can temporarily perform functions that depleting collagen and elastin once performed. The non-allergenic filler reduces the numbers of wrinkles that have developed near areas like the nose, cheeks and mouth. Radiesse is also used to repair scar tissue. The effects of a Radiesse treatment can last up to 12-13 months. Prime candidates for the non-surgical facelift treatment are generally women and men who are between the ages of 35 and 60.

Depending on how much work a client wants to receive, it can take 15 to 20 minutes to complete Radiesse injections. Results can be seen immediately. Part of this has to do with the fact that Radiesse works with connective tissue and natural chemicals in the body to start producing new collagen. While that work continues beneath the skin, the face starts to become fuller.

This treatment improves the sunken areas of the face, a step that, by itself, can take years off someone’s appearance. As the body starts producing new collagen and elastin, the water based calcium hydroxylapitite (CaHA) microspheres in Radiesse start to be replaced by natural collagen and elastin that’s produced by the body. It’s the ingredients in Radiesse that encourage the body to start producing collagen and elastin.

Before injecting Radiesse beneath the skin, your injector will identify areas that will be treated. They also determine the amount of the dermal filler they’ll inject beneath the skin. When applied, Radiesse is injected below the subcutis and dermis layer. Injectors will also apply an antiseptic to the treated areas.

Although each person is different, Radiesse treatment clients may experience minor swelling following the procedure. Other side effects people have experienced after receiving a treatment include minor bruising and discomfort. However, any swelling, bruising or discomfort should be gone within 24 to 36 hours after receiving a treatment. Clients can also contact their injector with questions they may have prior to receiving the treatment as well as after they get a Radiesse treatment, eliminating questions and increasing client comfort levels.
