Approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for public usage, Restylane is an injectable filler that’s made with a hyaluronic acid. It’s the first such filler to be approved by the FDA. Other countries started using Restylane sooner. More than 15 million people have received the filler since it was first introduced to the global market.
Primary reasons Restylane is used are to reduce facial wrinkles, add more volume to the lips and to add more contour to certain areas of the face. Areas where Restylane treatments are applied include around the mouth, cheeks, nose, chin, tear troughs and forehead. In addition to adding more volume to lips or making the mouth fuller, Restylane can correct deep folds found in facial skin.
Because the effects of the treatments are temporary, generally lasting around twelve months, Restylane cannot replace a full facelift. The facial filler also cannot make an overly full face look sleek. Some deep facial scarring caused from events like a major automobile accident may also not be completely removed following a Restylane injection.
Following treatments, you might experience minor swelling, bruising and/or discomfort. If there are minor complications following a treatment, they should go away after two to three days. Your injector can work with you to minimize discomforts.
Before getting a Restylane treatment, you should sit down and have a consultative discussion with your injector. This is important because while some injectors have years of experience performing invasive and non-invasive skin treatments, not all practitioners are experienced at using facial fillers like Restylane.
