Glendale AZ patients smile again with dental implants

Dental Implants Glendale AZ

Thanks to the marvelous advances in modern dentistry, the loss of one or more teeth does not have to be the end of a functional, beautiful smile. Although our teeth were meant to last a lifetime, unfortunately, that is not always the case. Trauma, gum disease, decay, medical conditions, or other circumstances can cause premature tooth loss. Numerous options are available to replace missing teeth, but only dental implants can provide the function, appearance, and feel of natural teeth.

Replace the roots

Root form implants are the most common type used by dentists today. They are essentially replacement tooth roots, used where natural teeth are missing. It is important to replace the entire tooth, not just the crown (the visible part), because the stimulation from the roots preserves the bone. When teeth are missing, the bone that supported them resorbs (melts away). Dental implants provide strong, stable foundations for the replacement teeth and stimulate the bone, preventing resorption.

Protect existing teeth

In addition to bone resorption, missing teeth can affect the existing teeth. Those closest to the gap can lean into the empty space, causing problems with the gums and the alignment of the teeth. As the teeth lean, the gum tissue can loosen, increasing the risk of periodontal disease. Moreover, the teeth shifting affect the way the teeth function and fit together, which can cause excessive wear and joint pain. Partial dentures or dental bridges can compromise the health of the teeth they are anchored to. Dental implants are standalone restorations that leave the existing teeth unaffected, while restoring function, appearance, and preventing bone loss.

Cost effective

Although implants are initially more expensive than other forms of restoration, their longevity makes them a more cost effective option. Both partial dentures and dental bridges need to be replaced on an average of every 10 years, with proper care, dental implants can last a lifetime.
