There are various factors that affect the overall look of our skin. Where cellulite is concerned, genetics, hormones, dramatic changes in weight, and age can all play a role. The “cottage cheese” look on the skin develops over time as the bands of connective tissue beneath the skin stiffen. The occurrence of expanded fat calls with this stiffening causes these cells to push outward, leading to dimpling. The directional positioning of connective tissues beneath the skin are different in women and men, which is why women are more prone to cellulite.
How it works
Cellulaze offers an inventive new approach to the treatment of cellulite, one that goes beyond dieting and exercise, or applying topical solutions to tighten the skin. What cellulite does is address the tight, fibrous bands that lie just under the skin, simultaneously increasing the skin’s elasticity. What to expect
Dr. Menkes will first mark the areas to be treated and apply local anesthesia to numb the treatment area. Tiny incisions, about the size of a pencil point will be made and the Cellulaze laser fiber, which is a tiny tube, is inserted. The laser fiber is used to level out bumps, stimulating the production of collagen for increased elasticity, and releases the fibrous bands that pull skin inward. In addition, small areas of fat are liquefied and removed. Treatment is typically completed in 1-1.5 hours.Following treatment, some discomfort and bruising may occur. Some patients experience a minor leakage of fluid from the incisions. In some cases, a compression garment is recommended. Within a day or 2 of treatment, light activities may be resumed. Strenuous physical exertion should be resumed gradually after 2 weeks of recovery. Over the course of the 12 months following treatment, the look of the skin will continually improve.
