Kybella®

For many patients, submental fullness, commonly called a double chin, can make them feel self-conscious or even embarrassed. While many people believe this is a sign of being overweight, the truth is that it can be cause by genetics, weight loss, and aging. It can affect both adult men and women and often can’t be addressed with exercise and dieting.

Recently, the FDA has approved Kybella®, an injectable treatment to contour and improve the appearance of submental fullness.

What is Kybella®?

Kybella® is made from a substance that’s found in the body called deoxycholic acid. Kybella® works by dissolving stubborn fat cells housed under the chin that simply can’t be addressed with weight loss, creams, or exercise. When injected into fat cells it destroys them and leaves the skin on the face tighter and the jawline more defined.

What to expect?

A very small amount of Kybella® will be injected into the jawline by Dr. Menkes or Dr. Soohoo. The injection only takes a few moments and can be done in the office. Prior to the first treatment a treatment plan will be developed so that you know how many treatment sessions will be required. While patients are likely to begin seeing results in just two sessions, it may take up to 6 treatments over the course of 6 months to see the complete results. The side effects of Kybella® are similar to those of other injectable solutions. Patients should expect to see some inflammation and bruising, but it only lasts for a few days
