A fixed bridge replaces missing teeth. Fixed bridges are different from partial dentures as they are not removable. Fixed dental bridges consist of two crowns on either side of the bridge anchoring the replacement teeth.

There are several reasons you might need a fixed bridge:

It will usually take two or more visits to complete a fixed bridge procedure. First, we must remove some of the enamel on the teeth that will anchor the bridge in place in preparation for the placement of crowns. We then take an impression, which will be used by the dental lab to create your fixed bridge. Once this is done, we provide you with a temporary bridge to wear while the permanent bridge is fabricated. Once your bridge is created, we will have a second visit during which we place and adjust your bridge. Regular care including brushing, flossing, and visits to our dental office will help your fixed bridge last longer.

If you are missing teeth, we can provide you with several alternatives to a fixed bridge:

• We can delay your treatment, but this will open you up to complications including movement of remaining teeth and the possible loss of more teeth.
• Dental implants come with longer treatment time, but it has advantages including greater stability and conservation of remaining teeth.
• Partial dentures are a removable option to fill in spaces when teeth are missing in various spots throughout the mouth.
