Dr. Nguyen is double board certified in Venous and Lymphatic Medicine and Interventional Pain. He completed medical school at the University of Miami and residency and advanced fellowship training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Michael Nguyen was one of the most respected Fellows at Harvard and received the prestigious “Fellow of the Year” award during his final year of training.
Upon completion of his training, Dr. Nguyen joined the Harvard faculty where his accolades included “Outstanding Teacher of the Year″ and “Mentor of the Year.” During his time at Harvard, Dr. Nguyen developed a clinical interest in venous disease and was instrumental in introducing minimally invasive, endovenous vein treatments to the Pain Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Nguyen has published about vein disease in the medical literature, including a textbook on minimally invasive treatments for chronic venous insufficiency. Dr. Nguyen’s work has been featured on television and print.
Dr. Nguyen believes in being innovative and staying on the cutting edge of medicine. At Harvard, Dr. Nguyen led a team of PhD candidates in developing a patented ultrasound guidance system that was subsequently selected for a prize by the Harvard School of Engineering. While Dr. Nguyen uses standard technologies such as ultrasound, radiofrequency (Venefit), endovenous laser (EVLT), phlebectomy and sclerotherapy in his vein practice, he has introduced cutting edge treatments such as the recently FDA approved VenaSeal procedure for varicose vein treatment.
At his office in Coral Gables, Dr. Nguyen routinely has physicians from across the country observing him and learning the latest techniques in endovascular venous treatment. Medtronic has made Miami Skin and Vein an official training site for physicians using their devices.
