Botox™ - Related FAQ's

Q: Will Fraxel laser fix my under eyelid wrinkles?

A: Fraxel Repair may help diminish, but not necessarily remove, lower eyelid wrinkles. Fraxel restore would be expected to help less than the Repair, but multiple treatments with the Restore could be done, whereas the Repair is done usually once.

Q: I don't understand when I should do Botox and for what reason fillers are used. How are they different?

A: Fillers fill and Botox, Dysport and Xeomin relaxes. So creases that are caused by repetitive muscle contraction such as squinting and frowning, are improved by injecting Botox in the muscles to relax them and then, the overlying skin, becomes smoother. Fillers lift the creases that are caused by the aging and sagging effects as well as the volume loss of fat atrophy in the face. Representative fillers used for fine lines in my NYC practice are Juvederm Ultra and Restylane. Juvederm UltraPlus, Perlane, and Radiesse are used for deeper lines and Sculptra is used when there is massive volume loss.

Q: Can Dysport last longer than Botox?

A: There have been a few scientific papers that have addressed this. There may be some validity to this statement but it should be studied further. If it does last longer it's only a matter of a few weeks.

Q: I want to have Botox for the first time. I have bad wrinkles in my forehead. I'm nervous about the pain, is it a painful procedure?

A: Many of my busy patients who do not like to wait for numbing cream to be applied find it a very tolerable procedure. The Botox doesn't burn going in and the tiniest of needles makes a minimal pinprick, if any, of a sensation. Some areas are more uncomfortable than others, but still tolerated well by most patients.
