Q: Do I have to have all eight treatments for laser hair removal if I don't see hair re-growth after the first few treatments?

A: Hair re-growth can occur frequently after the hair seems to be inactive after laser hair removal. Usually just three treatments are not enough. With our Light Sheer diode we recommend about 8 sessions, one month apart to capture the hair growing during treatment rather than just treating a few times and when some dormant hairs transform to the growing phase (anagen) the hairs will be seen coming up through the skin. This has a better chance to provide long term hair reduction.

Q: I have white marks where I had laser liposuction on my legs. This was done in California and I live in NY. I don’t want to go back to California just for this.

A: You may have obtained a permanent depigmentation or hypopigmentation. It may be difficult for your pigment in this area to recur. Fortunately, the risk of this is slight. It is more common for patients with skin of color that have a laser used on their skin with a wavelength that was too short so its energy was absorbed by the epidermal pigment rather than the deeper hair follicle.

Q: Can I get brown spots after laser treatment for hair removal?

A: Absolutely, there is always a risk of postinflammatory hyperpigmentation with any laser treatment of the skin, especially in those individuals who have a history of seeing a darker brown patch in their skin after a scrape or burn heals on their body. Lightening creams can help minimize this and you should see a board-certified dermatologist for a thorough discussion of the advantages and risks of laser hair removal, and to discuss which laser is best for you, It is an excellent treatment.
