What to expect before, during, and after Portrait Plasma resurfacing in NYC

Dr. Shelton and the team at The New York Aesthetic Consultants in NYC provide patients with a wide range of products, services, and treatments to improve the health and appearance of the skin. Whether patients are dealing with a condition such as acne or want anti-aging solutions for their skin, our state-of-the-art practice has many solutions. For those who want to rejuvenate the skin, Portrait Plasma rejuvenation may be considered.
Unlike other skin resurfacing treatments that use lasers, radiation, radiofrequency energy, and light, Portrait Plasma uses nitrogen plasma. This provides energy that is predictable and successful in stimulating skin regeneration and collagen production. This treatment is commonly used for addressing fine lines and wrinkles caused by skin laxity, and can retexture and tone the skin’s surface. Recovery time is shorter than other resurfacing techniques, and facilitates faster healing with less discomfort. This is because the healing from plasma is "inside-out." The epidermis is preserved after the procedure and the epidermis remains intact until a new lining regenerates from below pushing up and away the old epidermis.
Patients interested in Portrait Plasma resurfacing are encouraged to speak to a board certified dermatologist about what to expect before, during, and after their procedure.
Before
Before patients have Portrait Plasma completed, they must follow specific instructions given by their dermatologist. Patients should not have sunburn, active herpes, cold sores, or fever blisters during treatment. Acne therapies and anti-aging creams should be stopped approximately three days before treatment.
During
Topical anesthetic is applied on the skin before the treatment. Patients will lie down and they will be made comfortable before the procedure begins. Patients feel less pain from plasma resurfacing than Fraxel Repair carbon dioxide laser. Patients are awake and coherent during treatment.
After
Patients are rarely uncomfortable after treatment. The face may be red and change color over the course of several days. Around seventh to tenth day, patients can wear makeup to address discoloration. Patients should avoid sun exposure and protect their skin with creams approved by the dermatologist for use. Aloe Vera, Vitamin E, and other creams are not suggested during the healing phases. Before patients leave the practice, they should schedule their follow up appointment, and any additional Portrait Plasma treatments required for optimum results.
