Q: Is there a cure for cellulite?

A: NO! However, some treatments improve the condition's appearance and ongoing maintenance helps keep it less obvious such as Endermologie, Velashape and Thermage.

Q: I hate my fat knees. Can I have Zeltiq CoolSculpting so I don't have to have liposuction?

A: Liposuction for knees is not commonly done above the knee where many people complain about the bulge, but is done on the inner side. As liposuction doesn't address the entire knee area, there has been an interest in non-invasive fat reduction for this site. Zeltiq CoolSculpting chills the fat to kill the fat cells but the FDA clearance initially was for the love handles. Physicians can use it for off-label uses but there is no applicator for the machine that would fit the knee area. Thermage and Ulthera have been done for off-label uses on the knee to treat with radiofrequency / ultrasound without surgery. The results would not be expected, though, to be as much reduction as surgery.

Q: If I want Ulthera and Juvederm which should I do first? I want both to be done soon.

A: As there is not enough data out yet as to the effect of Ulthera on Juvederm's longevity or characteristics, it would be prudent to do the Ulthera before the Juvederm. Even if it were done the same day, it would be OK provided the Ulthera would be done first.

Q: I am 49 turning 50 and am seeing the start of a jowl and I hate it! I really don't want plastic surgery as I am a chicken and I am busy with work and can't take time off to heal. Would liposuction help me? A friend told me about Ulthera but I haven't heard much about it. Should I consider that?

A: Liposuction would be considered invasive and bruising and swelling can be considerable so you probably don't have the down-time to afford for such a recovery either if you can't undergo a facelift. Ulthera may infact, be just for you. It is a non-invasive delivery of ultrasonic energy to the deep connective tissue layers that can help tighten this layer. There can be some swelling and bruising is rare, but the down time is much less, if any, compared with liposuction or a facelift. The results however are not expected to be as great a lift as a facelift can produce, but at your young age, with good skin elasticity, you may achieve a great result.
