Skin Cancers
Moles are common on the skin of many individuals. While some moles develop over time, others are on the skin from birth. However, moles that have been present since birth are at an increased risk of becoming melanoma over the course of time. Melanoma can develop on any part of the body, even places that are not exposed to the sun. Moles that change size, shape, color, or texture may be a sign of skin cancer. Individuals who notice changes in moles are encouraged to visit a dermatologist such as Dr. Sidhu for a full examination. At Foothill Dermatology Medical Center, we are well educated and trained in diagnosing and treating cancerous skin cells.
The good news is that non-melanoma skin cancer is not always life threatening, but if not diagnosed early and treated as soon as possible, the cancer can spread. This is why it is so important for patients to receive a proper diagnosis and seek treatment early. This can reduce the risks and problems associated with cancer, and improve the cure rate. Patients should monitor their skin regularly for changes, new lesions or moles each month, and they should visit a dermatologist at least once a year for a complete skin check.
There are many variations of skin cancer, which include Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma, and Melanoma.
