Procedure for the placement of crowns and bridges
Related Categories

The procedure for the placement of crowns and bridges is similar, as bridges utilize crowns on each side for bonding onto the adjacent teeth. We can educate patients on the process to help familiarize them with the procedure.
The process starts with preparation. Patients must have their natural teeth prepared for the placement of the dental crown. Since a dental crown adds thickness to a tooth, some of the enamel of the natural tooth must be filed down to ensure the new crown does not add unnecessary bulk. This is done during preparation, after which Dr. Terry Vines takes impressions. These impressions, or molds, are used for the fabrication of the new restoration. They are sent to a dental laboratory where a ceramist creates the new crowns and bridges for placement within the smile. While new restorations are being made, patients are fitted with a temporary crown or bridge for a few weeks.
When the final product arrives from the ceramist, patients then return to the dental practice for their final placement. Dr. Terry Vines will remove the temporary restorations, replace them with the permanent pieces, and bond them in place. Patients will leave the dental office after this second appointment with their brand new smile!
