Veneers

In the variety of ways that a patient can get a whiter and brighter smile, treatment with veneers is one that requires little preparation of the teeth. Veneers are thin shells made of porcelain that are placed over the patient's existing tooth to make them whiter and straighter. This small adjustment can make a huge difference in getting a person's smile back.

Veneers are as thin as a baby's fingernail, and are bonded onto a patient's tooth with little preparation, which means that the top layer of enamel is scraped off to make room for the thickness of the veneer. Some teeth may not require any preparation at all. Veneers can give a patient a whiter smile because it covers the existing discolored tooth, but it also looks natural because the shade of the material can be matched to the surrounding teeth. This prevents the treated tooth or teeth from looking out of place.

Since veneers are made of porcelain, they last from 10 to 15 years and do not stain as easily as natural teeth. Because the material is quite strong and bonded securely onto the tooth, they can be brushed normally allowing you to maintain proper oral health. Patients do, however, need to be careful when eating sticky and hard foods, which may damage the veneer.

An added advantage of having veneers placed is that they don't leave a dark line around teeth the way that fillings and crowns do. The neat approach to the entire treatment means that the patient comes away from the procedure with natural looking and whiter teeth. A patient can have their veneers placed in two appointments where in the first appointment they get the imaging done for the veneers to be created, and in the second, they have the veneers placed.
