About Balika Vidyalaya School & Student Home for Girls

news1The Khategaon Student home has been operational since June 2010 and the school from 2011 July. The school and hostel is built on a 4-acre land, a life-time of earnings kindly donated by Radhe Shyam Bohare, an agricultural laborer from Khategaon. His dream became a reality with the help of Mike and Ila Lakhani, who came forward to sponsor the construction of the infrastructure with a donation of US $500,000 in 2011. This was further supported following Mike and Ila’s son’s wedding, Raj to Reecha, who kindly donated their wedding gifts to the cause. Mike and Ila also donated back packs and stationery to the delight of 125 school children and have further promised to create an endowment fund for the Khategaon projects.

news2The inauguration of the new facilities, named after Bohare’s mother “Gayatri Devi” attracted the entire village with over 500 villagers participating in the event. Speaking on the occasion the chief guest, Sri. Mahendra Hardia, Honorable Minister for Health, Madhya Pradesh, commended the efficiently run Student Home in Madhya Pradesh by Swami Aishwaryananda Saraswati.

The School building currently has 8 class rooms, office room and a toilet complex. The school has 125 children studying in grades 1 to 8. There are plans to expand the class room sizes, and facilities in the near future.

The Student Home building accommodates 65 girls. The facility is built in two levels and has 3 dormitories, a warden room, store, kitchen, office room and a terrace. There are plans to expand the number of student rooms and build modernized facilities for guests in the near future.
