Our physician, Steven Bengelsdorf, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a board certified surgeon with over 15 years experience. Steven Bengelsdorf, MD, FACS
Dr. Steven Bengelsdorf is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. He graduated magna cum laude from the prestigious Boston University Six-Year Medical Program, with a combined Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Medicine degree. He was accepted at the age of 17, and was the youngest member of his class. His undergraduate degree, in Medical Sciences, included intensive coursework in Advanced Physics, Physical Chemistry, Thermodynamics, and Organic Chemistry.
In Medical School, he obtained honors in both Anatomy and Physiology, and went on to secure a highly competitive position in the Boston University Surgical Residency Program. This entailed five years of rigorous postgraduate training, where he gained extensive experience in the management of trauma, burns, wounds, and wound healing while caring for a diversified population at the Boston City Hospital and the Boston VA Medical Center.
Dr. Bengelsdorf has been in practice for nearly 15 years, and has broad experience in general and minimally invasive surgery. His practice focuses on dermatologic and cosmetic surgery, facial aesthetics, and minimally invasive laser procedures.
Dr. Bengelsdorf first came to Middle Tennessee in 2003 when an urgent need arose for physicians at Ft. Campbell, KY because of the deployment of military surgeons to Iraq. After serving as a civilian physician for over a year, he became so enamored with Middle Tennessee that he decided to relocate permanently to the area.
He continuously strives to bring the latest in medical advances to his patients, and participates extensively in postgraduate coursework. He has earned the Physicians Recognition Award with commendation from the American Medical Association, and is a member of numerous medical organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, the Tennessee Medical Association, and the Nashville Academy of Medicine.
